Several years ago I met John Lolley of Monroe, Louisiana. John had done an exhibit at NOMA, entitled “LaBelle Epoque”. The exhibit covered art glass from 1880-1920. The exhibit was wide ranging with particular emphasis on Mt. Washington. It covered all prominent glass makers stateside and European. Of course, this included some Steuben. The Exhibit was accompanied by a beautiful catalog and history on the periods covered.

Since we’ve been doing a discussion of museums that have Carder Steuben Glass I asked John about NOMA. The Museum’s website, www.noma.org, describes their glass collection as the single greatest department strength. “The glass collection is ranked among the top five in The United States and covers the history of the glassmaker’s art from its ancient
Egytian origins through contemporary studio glass. The NOMA glass collection presently numbers about 12,000.”

Asking about Steuben I am told that their collection consists of 89 Steuben pieces, of which 37 are Mr. Carder’s creations. In the following pdf’s one is all Steuben and the other Carder Steuben. You can double click to enlarge.

We hear from collectors who are looking for a home for their collection. So, I asked this question of John Lolley. He advises Lisa Rotundo-McCord at NOMA would be glad to discuss this with any interested party. Anyhow, nice to learn more about another major art museum that has a strong interest in glass.
