The Carder Steuben Glass Association website contains a wealth of information on Steuben glass types, colors, and techniques. One of the most heavily used areas of the website is the Shape Gallery. The gallery is a database containing line drawings, descriptions, and photos of most items that were produced during the Frederick Carder period at Steuben Glass. The line drawings often feature more detailed information — such as the glass types used and item dimensions — than similar images published in Paul V. Gardner’s book The Glass of Frederick Carder. The Shape Gallery is searchable by a variety of parameters such as the form, type of glass, color, decoration, etching pattern, etc. It’s a great place to research Steuben glass and learn more about your pieces.
The Shape Gallery also includes photos of real-life examples by shape number that have been gathered from contributing members over the past few decades. These photos bring to life what the different shapes look like and provide additional perspective on color variations and techniques. If you have an example of a Steuben piece that is not pictured in the Shape Gallery index, we invite you to add it! Please take a clear, high quality photo and submit your picture along with any relevant information to webmaster@steubenglass.org. We continue to add pictures regularly and each one enriches our collective knowledge.
Our next CSGA member meeting will be held this Saturday, January 28 from 4:00-6:00pm EST. In this session, the Beemans will be sharing a short presentation about their extensive collection of glass fan vases. Meeting details were emailed to Carder Steuben Glass Association members yesterday; if you didn’t receive the information or have any questions please reach out to secretary@steubenglass.org for assistance. We hope you can join and look forward to seeing you!
