TRAVEL & LIGHT JADE BLUE

Our discussions of going through airports and getting TSA clearance while carrying collectible glass is getting some laughs from museum curators. They have considerable experience with these problems. Eleanor Cicerchi, Development Director at the Newark Museum was first to write. Now Stephen Gleissner, Curator at the Wichita Museum says
Rod’s Excaliber tale is hilarious ! (except to him, I’m sure) I shared it with the Museum staff-the tribulations of being a Steuben custodian, you know !

John Styler gave credit to Greg Merkel for discovering the color of his acb. Randy Bly wrote to say he thinks it was him. Greg wrote to say he doesn’t think it is him. Lots of Gazettes to keep track, right? Anyhow here’s Greg’s response.

I don’t recall replying to John’s note (perhaps it was another club member who replied), but I’m very interested to hear that it is French Blue!

Tony Topps takes issue with Randy Bly’s description of light blue jade. Similar comments from Marshall Ketchum. Tony sends along some pictures of well recognized blue jade to prove his point which can be found at

Tony says: In my opinion this is not light blue jade , it is simple there are many VDS perfumes with light blue jade stoppers , it is easy to tell that they are cased , they are ground down to flint white to fit the neck of the bottle . Light blue jade IS Cased glass !!! I have had many pieces ALL have flint white in the center of Celeste blue !!! Remember that Flint white is a White and the thinner it is the harder it is it see . It becomes more transparent , the thicker the piece is makes it easy to see the layers !!!
