Recognition Dinner
from David Goldstein of Naples, FL

Paul Doros sent me an article from the Friday, November 4, 1932 Corning Evening Leader regarding the annual Corning Glass Works employee recognition dinner. The list of employees in the article includes Frederick C. Carder as a 25 year employee of the Corning Division. Congratulations to Paul for spotting this article and its use of a middle “C.” initial for Mr. Carder. If you scroll down near the bottom of the page (grey arrow on left) you will see the use of Mr. Carder’s middle initial.

I find it interesting that the article credits Mr. Carder with 25 years of service in 1932, implying a start year of 1907. In 1932 Mr. Carder would still have been running Steuben Glass Works as an independent company. Furthermore, the article lists two employees with 30 years of service in the Steuben Division in 1932, which implies a start year of 1902, which predates the formation of Steuben Glass Works. I wonder if those employees started working for Corning in 1902 and then went to work for Steuben.

Note that November 1932 is later in 1932 than when Mr. Carder was removed as Director of the Steuben Division.
