Have you made hotel reservations yet for the Carder Steuben Club Symposium September 15-17 in Corning?
Mike Moline Shares His Story
Good morning Alan; a couple of my favorite things “Steuben”. Candlestick shape 6270 in spiral ribbed green jade as well as the compote/tazza (the same shape number) in spiral ribbed green jade
The reason I love them is because of the color, shape, style, elegance and balance, as is the case in most of Carders designs. He and Paul Gardner, who I think deserves more credit, had a great sense of balance.

A Case of the Blues
Yesterday, David Chadwick-Brown commented on an unusual blue bowl, as follows
On the right is a blue jade bowl, that is neither light blue, nor dark blue. It is marked, and was denominated as ‘royal blue,’ at the time of sale. No such name is in the list of colors, but once I had acquired a pagoda lamp, black over blue, it became evident that this is the color used there, and apparently some additional pieces were made – in berry bowls, and a two-pillar vase, which I have seen. Perhaps not a production color, these all seem to have come to the West Coast – whether as an intentional marketing ploy, or by happenstance.
Beth Shaut confirms David’s comments:
Hi Alan,
David’s bowl is what we refer to as Medium Blue Jade and was sold on the West Coast only. They are almost always marked. They made it in a few shapes but not many.
