Issue 224
In earlier e-mails we discussed the theme Shared Desires: A Unity of Glass & Metal, in
anticipation of our annual Symposium to be held Sept. 13-15 in Corning at CMoG.
We pointed out two examples for sale at auction at Fontaine’s this weekend. One, the torchere created a little controversy as to whether it was the “real deal” piece of Carder Steuben. The markings of the shape number and another adjacent mark didn’t appear to be correct.
Gerry Eggers reports from Fontaine’s, as follows:
The Art Deco Steuben/Boch ashtray went for $1,150 and the Steuben TorchereBoch base went
for $1,600. The blue glass globe on the torchere looked very much like Steuben–it must have been a special order.
