Report From The President

Sep 25, 2017
Issue 2801

I want to give everyone an update on recent events and share with you some future events. The 2017 Carder Steuben Symposium was a wonderful occasion, as usual. We had some great speakers with interesting and thoughtful comments. Several members shared some beautiful glass as well. The Tiffany Mosaics exhibit at the CMOG was fantastic and a sight to behold. The learning, educational and social opportunities abound and it certainly was an event not to be missed.

Special thanks to Scott Hansen, our past President who orchestrated the entire symposium this year. Scott has served the Club well over many years and we are grateful for his dedication and hard work. In addition, Board Director Mark Chamovitz was term limited and retired from the Board. Mark has done a great job running the Club’s auction each year and we are happy that he has agreed to continue in that role for next year. The Board welcomes Susan Wilks from Painted Post, NY, and John Stranges from Bath, NY , we look forward to tapping into their talents.

In addition to the changes on the Board, this next year will see another change for the Club , the timing of the Symposium will change. Because of another event in the Corning area in mid-September, the Club has moved the Symposium to October 11 , 13 for 2018. Fall is a beautiful time of year to visit the Finger Lakes region of New York State, so please mark your calendars now to reflect the new timing and read the Gazette regularly for future updates.

For those of you who are already members of the Club, I hope that you will renew your membership now for next year. For those of you who are not, I hope that you will consider joining the Club. The dues for the Club are extremely reasonable. The money generated helps pay for the Club’s website and maintenance of the shape gallery, the Gazelle Gazette, the Symposium and includes membership at The Corning Museum of Glass. If you receive enjoyment and benefit from this Gazette or the Club’s website, please consider joining the Club by going to our website at: www.cardersteubenclub.org

I look forward to working with the Board to make next year’s event spectacular. I am open to suggestions and comments, so please feel free to share them.

Bonnie Salzman

President, CSC

[We need pictures from the closing banquet–So if you have some please share]

The display above was a particularly strange window as we were trying to figure out how it was displayed. Turns out that the orange parts have metal rods anchoring them to the back walls and the clear parts are free-form. Can’t even imagine how delicate it was to mount.
