That was a really nice article on Fred Carder and Fred Parsons. To add to it and this is a story told to me by my father, Fred Carder designed the course at the Corning Country Club. There was a need for businessmen and their family’s to enjoy a relaxing outdoor sport (debatable) and do themselves a good turn with exercise. Carder felt that Americans ate to much and didn’t exercise enough. When the depression hit hard times fell on the Corning Country Club and it was Carder who secured the loans to keep it afloat. In an interesting note when Alison Nicholas, an English golfer, won the LPGA in Corning in 1995, she was asked how it felt playing on an American course. She replied that she felt right at home since the Corning course was much like those in England. Today not a plaque or any acknowledgement of Fredrick Carder for his contribution is at the facility.
