The Process of Discovery

Alan, I had received this item in an estate liquidation. It is signed aurene with the shape number 2846. It is10″ in diameter and at first I couldn’t find it in Paul’s book so I went to the original line drawings I have and through those I verified the number. Paul had it listed under the compote category, but due to its size I would think that it was a centerbowl or at least a bowl rather than a compote. I just looked up the use for compotes and maybe it is since they are used from sweets to mash potatoes to a vessel to float candles or flowers. Proper eating was never one of my fortes.

Any way here is a photograph of the piece.
