Yesterday Tom Dimitroff submitted some old photos of interesting Carder glass. Michael Krumme had some questions.

I read the message from Mr. Dimitroff with great interest, and admired the pieces he shared. However, he did not mention which particular Steuben “red” and blue the fan vase was.

Also, I would love to know more about Cintra. The apple marmalade (?) that was shown was an interesting color; I was wondering how many different colors of Cintra there are, and what that particular one might be called.

Finally, I have never heard the term “merese” before, in glassmaking or otherwise. Does anyone know whence it comes?

I am happy that these photos were of interest. These photos are simply snapshots taken many years ago. If my memory serves well, the red was Gold Ruby and the blue was Celeste Blue.

I first came upon the term merese while working at the Corning Museum of Glass. I believe it is used quite commonly in the museum worlds. I think it has a French background.

The Cintra piece is a rare one. I have always heard it called Orange Cintra. Cintra comes in a variety of colors. It is a type of glass well worth looking into as it is beautiful, often quite unusual, and, I believe, can still be a good investment.
