University of Southern Indiana

Susan and I decided this past year to down size and moved from our home to a condominium. As part of the downsizing we gave part of our Carder Steuben collection to USI. USI has a substantial art department, including a particular emphasis on ceramics. The University appreciates art and art is present not only in their art gallery, but throughout campus, in hopes it will resonate with students as part of a larger education. It was a natural marriage for USI to be pleased with the opportunity to expose students and the community to Carder Steuben by incorporating this Steuben collection in a new conference center which is about to be built. The University did an exhibit of part of my collection a couple of years ago. The astounding reaction to discovering Carder Steuben then, is leading to a new excitement now. The University’s curator is a relatively new addition to the Gazette mailing list and her excitement shows through in her unsolicited comments below. All of this reminds me that with a new building and new space, if any of you are looking for a place where your collection will find a new audience of appreciation and attention, I’m sure USI would be open to such a gift.
