A Great Book on Tiffany

The recent announcement by CMoG of a lecture by Paul Doros on his new book “The Art Glass of Louis Comfort Tiffany” reminded me that this book should be in every glass collector’s library. The book is a major addition to the literature on Tiffany Glass. The quality of the glass and pictures is outstanding, and the text is both scholarly and informative.

Paul spoke about what was then his upcoming book at our 2012 Symposium. The book meets or exceeds what he discussed with us. Paul was also kind enough to donate two copies of the book to the Club, which were sold at the 2013 Symposium, so at least two of our members (plus me) already have the book.

From the exquisite delicacy of the Flowerform vases to the dramatic golden flow of the Lava vases, the book highlights a variety of unique masterpieces. With a biography of Louis Comfort Tiffany, a history of the glasshouse and its extraordinary technical innovations, and profiles of the gifted glassworkers and scientists behind the artworks, as well as never-before-published documents and archival photographs of Tiffany and his family, The Art Glass of Louis Comfort Tiffany showcases the mastery and vision behind these remarkable works.

I remain a Carder fan, but the book gave me a much better understanding of Tiffany.
