STEUBEN ADVERTISING
My memory may not be perfect but I can’t recall a Steuben advertisement in recent years (probably decades) that had a person in the ad. The focus is always on just the piece of glass. However, it wasn’t always so. I was recently reading a Steuben catalog from 1953 and came across the photo shown below for the iconic Steuben apple. I was struck by two things. First, the masterful composition of the photograph. Yes, you see the model, but your eye immediately goes to the apple. Second, the elegance conveyed in the ad. Everything about the model, from her hair, to her jewelry, to her dress evokes the simple, elegant nature of the apple. The photo really captures the image of Steuben in the 1950s.
