Jenny Monroe from Corning sends along this Elderhostel opportunity

Hi Alan, Jenny Monroe here. Tom Dimitroff and I want to share information about the next Elderhostel/Road Scholar glass course featuring Carder coming up in December. Thanks!

If folks couldn’t come to either the September Steuben Collector’s Symposium or the October Corning Museum of Glass Seminar, here’s one more opportunity this year to come to Corning to learn about glass, and especially take advantage of the expertise of our lead instructor, Tom Dimitroff.

All About Glass Road Scholar program will be offered in Corning, December 5-8, 2011.

All About Glass is a short course that features eight presentations by Tom Dimitroff and Corning Museum of Glass curators including: Jane Spillman, Tina Oldknow, Florian Knothe and Steve Koob. In addition, presentations about the Rakow library collections, the history of the 1972 flood, a walking tour of historic Market Street, an appointment to blow an ornament and fuse a sun catcher at the CMoG Studio and a wine tasting at the home of a local glass collector.

The program is coordinated by and held at Watson Homestead Conference & Retreat Center, located 8 miles west of Corning. Three nights accommodations, ten meals, transportation and all fees are all included. Airport pick-ups are also available. Two full days are spent at the Corning Museum of Glass.

Registration for participants is handled through Road Scholar, see website info below. Costs for the four day/three night course (#9535) is $490 per person, double occupancy, $75 single supplement, $394 without accommodations.

Ready for more information? Go to www.roadscholar.org and search for “Corning.” There you will see all of Jenny’s courses currently on sale. These programs, while designed for retired participants, are open to adults of any age.

In case you don’t know Jenny, she spent 23 years as educator at the Rockwell Museum, coordinating early Friends of Carder Symposia, and offering programs and trips related to the Carder Collection. Since 2002, she’s been creating Elderhostels (now called Road Scholar) programs at Watson Homestead. She and her husband also collect Carder shades. If you have questions, feel free to call Jenny at 607-738-5069 or email her at watsonjenny@stny.rr.com.

Thanks!
