Happy birthday Mr. Carder b. 9/18/1863. As is tradition, a birthday celebration
will be held in Corning, NY this evening, with comments from Jane Spillman.
Saturday at the Club’s Symposium we spent part of the afternoon touring Mr.
Carder’s Corning, including his grave site and family monument as part of the
process of honoring him and recognizing his monumental impact on the art glass
world. Then Saturday evening at our closing banquet at Corning, Inc. headquarters we
raised our glasses in thanks and remembrance to Mr. Carder, by reciting a quote
from a 1939 article by

Alexander Silverman:
“The creations of Frederick Carder constitute a precious art museum in themselves and, as a whole, have never been equaled by the products of any other single individual for their variety, attractiveness, originality, and intrinsic value.”

This past weekend was a magical moment in sharing the love of Mr. Carder’s works. Next year’s Symposium will be 9/13-15, 2007. For those who missed this year’s Symposium, you’ll want to put this on your calendar because you won’t want to miss next year’s.
