As we approach the season of thanksgiving, we find ourselves reflecting on the many reasons to be grateful. One of the blessings is this wonderful CSGA community. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have openly shared your knowledge, photos, time, and enthusiasm for Steuben glass. We wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving filled with joy, laughter, and cherished moments with family and friends.
One of the highlights of the Symposium each year is the opportunity to see a variety of Steuben pieces up close. As part of the program this past September, Symposium attendees enjoyed two sessions where members of the CSGA community shared their glass and their stories with the appreciative audience.
In the perennial favorite “Collector’s Choice” talk, longtime CSGA member Scott Hansen shared his extensive collection of “Steuben Goblets and Other Drinkware.” Scott packed up, transported, and displayed a thrilling assortment of Steuben goblets in a kaleidoscope of colors, shapes, and sizes. Scott shared his many stories of lessons learned and knowledge gained with all of his acquisitions. We were grateful to be able to see close-up all of his beautiful pieces.
In the Member’s Spotlight presentation, we invited several CSGA members to share some of their “favorite things.” Mike Moline, Sue and Steve Maynard, Beth Shaut, Dwight and Jeanette Little, and Gordon Hancock all brought and shared some of the pieces that mean the most to them. They presented a wonderful selection of not only Steuben, but also of Tiffany, Loetz, and several other favorite art glass pieces that they have collected over the years and love. They shared their stories of how they came to have the pieces and a little bit about each of them. There is something magical about experiencing a piece of glass through the stories of a person who truly appreciates the beauty and art contained within it.
