Sotheby’s Tyrian Sale
from Dick Stark
The lobed Tyrian vase was The first piece of that glass I ever owned and only the second I had ever seen. That will tell you how long ago it had been.
I had to pry it out of one of the pioneer glass collector’s collection. Interestingly I could never find a figure drawing for the shape. Interestingly I saw one other many years later and they are presently as yet another in the coming Sotheby sale.

I agree with Paul Doros re the shape of the “Tyrian” vase; most unusual for Steuben. It is as if a Steuben gaffer went rogue and became a Tiffany gaffer for this vase. Very odd indeed!
