A Bit of Nostalgia

from Scott Hansen

I always looked forward to receiving the Steuben catalog each fall. Sadly, the catalogs are no longer produced. Since 2013 when Steuben production was reinstated most of the marketing has been done through their website (www.steuben.com) and through email. Happily, print marketing has returned and I just received an eight page Steuben brochure showing some of the current product offerings. Included are some of the “old” familiar designs, some reintroductions and some new pieces.

One of my favorite new designs is A Penny Saved shown in the accompanying photograph. It was designed by Harry Allen.

At the Symposium this past fall Harry Allen participated in a live, hot glass presentation producing one of his Steuben piggy banks in a large format.

Also of note in the print brochure is the expanding retail distribution of Steuben. It is now available at George Watts & Son in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in addition to the GlassMarket at the Corning Museum of Glass and on the website. Carder Steuben was sold at George Watts & Son. Now if only we could bring back Marshall Field & Co.

If you are interested in receiving Steuben emails, you can subscribe for those on the home page of the Steuben website. If you are interested in receiving print materials, send an email to Steve Bender at Steuben (bendersc@cmog.org) with your name and address and you will be added to the print marketing mailing list.
