They have the pots hot to keep them from breaking, also to make sure there is no water in the clay to cause it to crack. Interesting is the little monkey pot they also put in the opening, used mostly for colored glass so they can case or add colored rims or other uses.

Perhaps you will admire, (as I did) the amazing method of changing out pots of glass. OY! I don’t know WHY they had to have them hot, but I guess there are reasons.
