Issue 456
Tom Dreiling of NYC asks as follows:
I’m very much enjoying the emails and pictures of the ongoing talks of the
Transparent Colors. As many of you know, because of a major illness and
staggering medical bills I just sold my collection, but I was always especially
interested in the TC. I had a vase that was either Window Glass Green or Nile
Green. Does anyone have pictures of either of these? I would still like to know
for sure what I had!!! It was a very, very pale green, if you put it next to a
Pomona Green it looked like what a Pomona would look like if it were drawn out
and made micro thin. Plus with just a hint of Celeste blue when you looked at the
thick parts like the stem. I would also like to see some more pictures of Smoke. Does anyone have any info about when and how it was made?
Next, some of you had problems of a repeating message from yesterday. We
think we’ve stopped it, but in doing so, the following e-mail didn’t get to about a
third of you, so for those here it follows.
First, some of you may have gotten multiple copies of the last e-mail. While I
don’t know for sure why, I would guess that in forwarding the last two attached
pictures they may have been too large in terms of pixels for some situations.
We’re trying to figure it out and not sure, but my apologies if you are having
that problem.
Next, because of what has been learned from the discussion of blues, our
webmaster, Mark Buffa, is going to incorporate some of this on our web page.
www.cardersteubenclub.com So, a great deal has been learned and here are
some of Mark’s comments.
As for the funny looking blue, there seems to have been a copper blue jade produced that did not go over well so not much was made and most seems to pop up on the West Coast. Only a few shapes are known to come in it. The 6030 and 6031 are now shapes, along with a footed Grotesque. Most have been calling it “Celeste/Copper Blue Jade” or “God Awful Blue” but no official name has been found. Documents show that a “Blue Jade” 6030 was produced and it sold cheaper than the transparent colored glass, which kind of indicates that it was a color that did not go over well. I am going to be working on updating the Blue Pages in the color index this weekend and adding some pages specifically for each blue that I have information on. I will try and include a page for this jade blue along with the Persian Blue that has been in discussion.
