This is Steuben shape 6428 in Smoked Crystal with French Blue decoration. Smoked Crystal is one of the more scarce Steuben colors. This is the only size listed in the factory records.

Query

This is HGM Steuben No 6. It is described as a Steuben 5″ Tazza, Rosaline and Alabaster, unmarked.

A tazza (Italian, “cup”, plural tazze) is a shallow saucer-like dish either mounted on a stem and foot or on a foot alone. The word has been generally adopted by archaeologists and connoisseurs for this type of vessel, used either for drinking, serving small items of food, or just for display. It is also used by appraisers to describe this type of piece.

I have no idea whether or not this is a Steuben piece. Joann Tortarolo

Response on Identification

Joann

This is Steuben shape 6885 and is considered a compote by Steuben. It is in Rose Cluthra shaded to White Cluthra. The white glass was probably based on Alabaster but we have not documentation of that that I know of. The Rose Cluthra was based on Gold Ruby. These two colors would not be considered to be Rosaline and Alabaster.

I would agree Rose Cluthra shaded to White Cluthra. Can we please rule out Amethyst Cluthra 100%? I caught a small hint of purple from the weak photo. Joann do you know the difference between cranberry colored glass and amethyst glass? Rose will be all shades of pink red and cranberryAmethyst will be shades of purple as more blue is added. What do you see in person?.

The color is definitely Rose rather than Amethyst. Joann
