Q? Steuben?

Buyer Beware

from Dave Kingsley of Loxahatchee, FL

Hi Alan,

We want to thank David, Lon and Michael for taking the time to correctly identify our plate. Duane Moulton had had his doubts from the beginning and felt he had correctly identified it as the Northwood plate since Carder’s line drawings are usually spot-on. It was identified as Steuben by the seller and good enough to pass inspection in the not well lit antique store off the beaten path in Kentucky. I doubt the seller did any research beyond the mark. As always, buyer beware. Oh well, now the group has another fake mark to add to the collection and we are better educated. Thanks again!

Best Regards,

One Last Opinion

from Bob Bjork of Stonington, CT

Alan,

In response to Dave and Duane’s question about the plate. It appears to me that the plate is pressed in a mold. I believe that the piece is Fenton Stretch Glass. Similar examples are shown in Fenton Art Glass 1907-1939 by Whitmyer, Page 153
