Issue 638
Yesterday (#637) we wrote to you about lobbying the postal service and your local congress representatives about creating a commemorative stamp honoring the most influential glass maker in America, Frederick Carder. This is a request asking each of you to take some steps to make an appeal. It requires each of us to writeup something to “make the case”. Attached was a pdf (repeated here) of John Styler’s communications with the postal service for some guidance.
Joe and Joyce Anderson of Gallipolis, Ohio in response writes.
Where do we send the letter to the post office? Any suggestions about what we should say? I am sure that it will be more effective if each letter is different. We will be happy to do a letter. Joe and Joyce Anderson
Answer: Mr. Terrance W. McCaffrey, Manager Stamp Development, 1735 N. Lynn Street, Suite 5013, Arlington, VA 22209-6432
Gail Bardhan at the Rakow Library of CMoG provides this contact information for the Corning area:
Eric Massa is our local Congressman, and since his home is in Corning, he might want to support your cause. By going to his website http://massa.house.gov/, you can also send email, and get his mailing address. Our senators don’t have the close geographic connection that Massa does, but their names are Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand
Dick Stark of Bethesda, Maryland notes the distinction between stamps featuring glass v. honoring glass makers.
A stamp illustrating a Tiffany lamp and perhaps others was issued but never a depiction of the
artist or the individual.
