The Carder Goblet is located on the mezzanine of the American Wing which was reinstalled a few years ago. Walk all the way toward the rear of the museum and up the open staircase on the left. It is the only Carder Steuben item on display that I was able to find. It is labeled as a “wine” glass however it is the size of a “water” goblet. I have told a few key people in that department that I think it should be re-labled and even offer to provide examples of the other sizes for display. All said good idea but no action.

The MET today does not react to much as it is a state of management turmoil, even going so far as to have meetings with patrons to “re-assure” us that the MET “has a plan” to come out of its current state. Some new management is expected later this year.

The most positive (really positive) thing about the MET is that the special event days children’s programs (always free) that my foundation has been supporting have grown from about 800 participants in 2008 to perhaps 8000 or so (guessing from discussions with the education department) today. The purpose of these programs is to have fun events for kids in the galleries so that they are exposed to the art on the walls. An example was a black history “reader” reading and talking to kids seated on stools in front of a bust of Abe and the massive painting of Washington Crossing the Delaware.
