Carder’s Gazelle
What About Littleton
John Littleton has a long history of glass in his family, and had big shoes to fill. His father was Harvey Littleton, the famous glass artist and educator, widely known as the founder of the American studio glass movement. Harvey was born in Corning, and lived right down the street from the Carders. Harvey’s father was Dr. Jesse Littleton, Jr., Director of Research at Corning Glass Works and the company’s first physicist. This year, grandson John and his wife Kate Vogel, studio glass artists in their own right, have agreed to speak at the Carder Steuben Symposium. They will share stories about the Littleton family, drawing from Harvey’s extensive archives and the Corning connection, including a story about a piece of glass traded to Frederick Carder. We’ll also check on John’s shoe size.
John and Kate’s talk is entitled, “Igneous Expressions – A Family in Glass”
