Rande Bly’s post in Thursday’s Gazette is a bit misleading. He states that the color “…Citron Yellow no longer exists.” That is not true. We just don’t have a documented example of it in the Shape Gallery yet. He is correct that the color that used to be called Citron Yellow is now properly referred to as Topaz. This discovery was made by Greg Merkel in his research in Carder’s notebooks combined with his x-ray fluorescence analysis of the pieces of glass formerly identified as Citron Yellow. That analysis revealed that the chemical composition of Citron Yellow pieces matched the formulas in Carder’s notebooks labled Topaz. Greg presented his findings at the 2016 Symposium.

I got this lovely vase last year at the banquet auction. It started out the as Shape #2909, a 6″ vase with ring handles in Citron Yellow. After Dr Merkel presentation and his looking at it when he came through the payment line after the auction, it’s now listed in my inventory as Topaz. And just as beautiful despite its name change.
