I want to wish each and all a Blessed Holiday Season for Balmy Florida.

Now back to the color of Black glass. Over the years I have seen black glass which, when subjected to intense light, illuminated purple, dark green, and a deep blue. I believe that there is a molded glass category called “Black Amethyst”. I have seen “black glass” in Tiffany vases which actually is dark green.

Just my two cents worth in this discussion of color density.

I have the black candlestick and they have a white ring around the top. Also the bowl with string or threads come in green and also yellow. Love my glassware. Ileen Lummus

Below is a photo of the only other piece of glass I know of or have seen in this color. It is at the Corning Museum not on display.. It is shape 3210. Corning describes it as being translucent and at first appearance it is black. It is not a transparent Steuben color like Dark Amethyst and is in fact translucent. Mirror Black is opaque.

We are all familiar with Mirror Black and it’s black so dark you have to hold it to the direct ball of the sun to even see the internal color. This shade of color is not Mirror Black. It is not Carder’s Dark Amethyst either. Has anyone seen or had an example of this?

It sounds like Knickerbocker’s vase may have the same glass in the threading.
