Rande Bly of Birmingham raises an observation that may identify the art of Frederick Carder.
I was wondering if any one out there has ever experienced looking at a piece of glass and recognizing what I call the “Carder Curve”? It is almost like you can guess where the curve should go. Or spot that the curves are in all the right places. Carder’s pieces are so graceful and almost predictable. It is SO cool how he could place a few curves together that were never too tight or too straight. Just perfect. Mingled with an occasional space age looking straight line now and then. Sometimes can’t you just spot a piece of Steuben from a mile away. Just the other day I spotted some Steuben on the fireplace mantel in the back ground on a TV show called Jericho.
I have seen some other makers that are very famous and they just never got their curves right and their pieces are lacking in grace beauty and form. Always have been always will be.
Am I just crazy or has anyone else seen Carder’s Curve?
