Request for Help

Hi Alan,

I’m trying to help identify the color of this lattice bowl for a friend and collector. Any ideas?

These woven baskets are typically found in Pomona Green; however, this appears a much deeper color. The late dealer, Neil Kohut had this to say about the glass weaving on a piece such as this.

MOST LATTICE WORK IN PORCELAIN IS MOLDED, BUT EVEN IF IT IS HANDMADE IT IS A HUNDRED TIMES SIMPLER TO MAKE THAN IT IS IN GLASS. BECAUSE GLASS IS MOLTEN WHEN BEING WORKED IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE DIAMONDS FROM COLLAPSING OR LOSING THEIR SHAPE. ALSO, THE PIECE MUST BE REHEATED WITH EACH FEW ADDITIONAL COILS OF GLASS, TO KEEP IT FROM FRACTURING. THEN THERE IS THE DIFFICULTY OF WORKING WITH SOMETHING THAT HOT AND KEEPING THE ENTIRE PIECE ROUND. INTERWEAVING COILS OF CLAY HAVE NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS. PERHAPS THAT IS WHY SO FEW GLASS COMPANIES EVEN ATTEMPTED THIS TECHNIQUE
