What about the mission?

Its obvious that our members have varying feelings about adding Modern Steuben Collectors to the Club. We continue to share these responses and welcome more. So, the Gazette will continue publishing the many comments we’ve received over the coming days.

1. Dear Alan and David,

I strongly urge that the Carder Steuben Club should remain just that, Carder Steuben. Sometimes, when areas become so diluted, many lose interest. I would be one of them!

Perhaps a seperate site for the clear, modern Steuben might prove of interest to those who collect it.

2. Although the Carder Steuben Club was established to promote knowledge about the old glass, collectors of Modern Steuben will soon be in the old glass category. By Inviting collectors of Modern Steuben into the club we might get more people interested in collecting the old. Certainly it will not hurt to try . If you don’t ask you will never know. I do not think that it will dilute the clubs purpose. I would guess that most of our members have some Modern Steuben as well as other glass in their collections now . We do have speakers about other glass at the symposiums so what would be the difference if we went in this direction?

3. This is a tough call. I can see both sides of the issue… While I do not find the Modern Steuben to be attractive or interesting; the logic of including it in the scope of the organization is compelling. I guess I am always a big tent person.

I say expand unless there is a clear majority strongly opposed to it. Or if the expansion would use up limited resources that would endanger the original mission.

I will support the Board’s decision, either way.

Larry Baker, North Kansas City, Missouri

4. Why hold old feelings? Include the modern artistry. We migkt even get used to
it.
