What Norman Skolnick Wants
Yesterday Norman Skolnick said “I would really like to have as a keeper for my collection is a Tiffany blue example”
So, what is it of Mr. Carder’s work that is referred to as “Tiffany Blue”? Usually what is referred to by this term is a piece like this.
Decorated Blue Vase with Intarsia Collar
Shape #2468
Probably Dark Blue Jade over Flint White. Aspects of the vase relate to Tiffany Studios’ Tel el Amarna glassware and other types inspired by ancient form. In form, it resembles certain elegant, tapered vessel shapes from the ancient southern Mediterranean. Hooked threaded ornament, such as appears on the collar of this vase is among the earliest of decorative techniques employed in glass, used by Egyptian glassmakers over three millennia ago. from Collector’s Choice Review Number 19.
When one of the vases come up for sale it is reputed that both Tiffany and Steuben collectors contest for this style vase, hence the referral to it as a “Tiffany Blue” vase.

David Chadwick-Brown sends along this message to Norman and others:
Message for Norman on the Tiffany blue he seeks. The upcoming Early Auction’s first offering (#1) is a lamp that, while designated as Tyrian, would seem to be a Tiffany Blue. My computer does not always catch colors accurately, but I believe it would suffice until he (and we) come upon that rare Tiffany Blue vase we all would love to possess.
