VOTING

Jul 26, 2013
Issue 1782

In response to the discussion about voting on the by-law proposed changes only by attending the Symposium, John Styler responds:

“Marshall Ketchum, you make a good point about skewing voting toward those living near Corning and I see Bruce Henderson’s point about a desire for absentee voting because of cost considerations required for attending the Symposium.”

CONTINUING RESPONSES

We own a few pieces of Carder Steuben, which we enjoy thoroughly, but the vast majority of our collection is NOT Carder,

I know of no good reason why joining the two into one would cause any difficulty and furthermore, I would think that continuing to exclude other Steuben collectors would cause undue discord and in the end possibly lead to a diminution of membership.

Finally my own personal suggestion: I think the name “Modern Steuben” is a mistake. In this specific, what is the meaning of “Modern”? Is it a specific date, a list of all artists EXCEPT Carder?

A color versus colorless? An attempt to downgrade any Steuben that is not Carder?

At no time since I began collecting Steuben in the 1940’s have I ever heard the term “Modern Steuben” except in the Carder Steuben Gazette issues.

I am strongly in favor of an affirmative vote for joining the collectors, but I would still object to the title “Modern Steuben”
