Dinner Auction
Good Morning Carder Steuben Lovers,
We are now two weeks away from the deadline for any submittal you might like to place in the Symposium’s dinner auction. As previously stated, you may consign an item, either with or without a reserve placed on it, in which case you would receive 90% of the final sale price, and a seller’s premium of 10% would go to the Club. You may also choose to donate an item, in which case 100% of the sale price would go to the Club (no seller’s premium applies.) Remember if you attend the auction on Saturday September 17, 2016, all items which you are the high bidder will be subject to a 10% buyer’s premium. National auction house premiums are now averaging between 20% and 30%, so our 10% is still “old school.” I humbly request if you do have any item(s) to submit for the auction, that you kindly adhere to the September 7, 2016 cutoff date. It helps me organize the final auction brochure. I thank you in advance for your support and consideration.

The clear candlestick has no line drawing. But it is the low version of #6734, a practice that Carder used to produce a lower version of some of his taller candlesticks. Marshall Ketchum, in his second edition of “Frederick Carder’s Steuben Glass,” p. 53, discusses this at greater length.
As for the cupped or layer of white on jades, discussion was contained in the Gazette a month or so ago, and this may be a clearer example of the effect on the light blue jade sherbet. I was wondering then in what other jades you find the white – whether alabaster or flint.
“SOME OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS”
This is just one of the many beautiful pieces that you might see from our member collectors who will be participating in the Some of Our Favorite Things program at the Symposium.
It is a cologne, shape 6604 in amethyst and engraved in the Malaya pattern.
Treasures like this are not to be missed at the Carder Steuben Symposium.
