Issue 463
As reported in prior e-mails and in the minutes of the last meeting of the Board of Directors of the Carder Steuben Club, we have several ideas for projects the Club might undertake to further education of Mr. Carder’s works. For example, giving museums a Carder Steuben display. Another idea from e-mails was creating an exhibit with as many of the 140 colors Mr. Carder created. Debby Schultz of New Vernon, NJ suggests the following:
I suggest that you set up an educational program with a speakers bureau and a video. My recommendation is to have club members volunteer to speak at schools and organizations in their areas presenting the History of Glass Making and the Influence of Frederick Carder on American Glass. Schools, clubs and varied organizations are always looking for speakers. The only real cost would be making a video or buying a few copies of an existing video about Frederick Carder and Steuben and mailing costs. There must be websites that list speakers bureaus that the club could get listed on. A call to a school board would inform you as to how they get speakers.
An informational script for the presenter should be written also and sent for their use. More people will volunteer if they know that material is available for them to refer to.
Videos should be kept in one location and then mailed to the speaker with the script to use at the presentation. I bet there are plenty of people on the club roster who would love to have the opportunity to speak about their glass.

Lots of great ideas floating around for your board to sort through. Thanks
Debby.
