Sam Kissee asked if Tyrian was always signed. Not to be flip, but never say always. Tom Dimitroff’s Signature Chart (Appendix 5 at page 315 of Frederick Carder and Steuben Glass) says Tyrian was “seldom” unsigned, leaving open the possibility of unsigned pieces. Gardner at page 133 says “Tyrian … wa[s] usually marked..”, again leaving open the possibility of pieces without signatures.

Revi makes the strongest statement at page 141 of American Art Nouveau Glass when he states “All of the Tyrian glass we examined had the name “Tyrian” engraved on the base of the object.” But, no matter how many pieces he examined, you can’t extrapolate from that sample to conclude that all examples of Tyrian were signed.

I would conclude that you should expect a signature on a piece of Tyrian but not rule out the possibility of an unsigned piece. And even with a signature, there still is the possibility of encountering “signed Tyrian” pieces that didn’t begin their existence in Corning, NY.
