For a change of pace from reporting on the Symposium we pass along Rande Bly’s comments
Here is an example of Shaded Ruby. In the glass field it is known as Amberina. I am quite certain this is also made from a cadmium/selenium mix. Starts out yellow, turns orange, then with the perfect heat it turns red. Great to make shaded glass with by heating only a portion of the piece. Ericson pictured it on page 55 book one. He thought it was a tumbler.
It is a toothbrush shape 6767.
Alan’s Threaded, Facsimile signed Rouge Flambé Toothbrush is also shape 6767.
Ericson showed 3 different examples of Shaded Ruby in his books. People scoff at the idea that Carder made Amberina/Shaded Ruby.
If you stir in a little alabaster to this kind of glass you get Rouge Flamme so this glass ties into the Cardinal Red/Rouge Flamme/Rouge Flambé discussion.
I think I can hear Ericson saying ” thank you Rande”
