Tom Dimitroff

So many have passed along inquiries and best wishes for Tom Dimitroff’s
recovery. I know Tom is feeling better because he has passed along the
attached article from the Corning newspaper about the upcoming American Cut
Glass Association in Corning the middle of July.
Tom is planning on putting together an exhibit of Carder’s cut glass in Building
“B” at CMoG. While Carder is not known for his cut glass he has done some
significant and bold work that shouldn’t be overlooked. At our Symposium in
September we will visit Building “B” the evening of Friday Sept. 15 for dessert,
wine and coffee. We’ll then dedicate the console set candlesticks we acquired
with CMoG to Bob Rockwell. Afterwards Tom will present Carder’s cut glass
exhibit and speak to it.
I also understand, and I hope my memory is correct that I first learned this
from our treasurer Jim Sutterfield, that Frederick Carder’s great grandson
found a trunk with diaries of Mr. Carder. He has donated them to the Rakow
Library. Marie McKee President of Steuben Glass reported that the initial
opening and reading of these diaries in the hand of Mr. Carder was an electric
moment for those present. Apparently throughout they contain some of his
color formularies. Hopefully, at the Symposium the Rakow will share some of
those materials with us.
