To repair or not repair, that is the question

Shari Hopper, of Paradise & Co. of Paradise, CA (Replacement parts and
restoration services for antique perfume and atomizers) sends this along.
I have another name to pass on for doing this quality of work.
The sons of a glass blower from Steuben glass, Roy Denson, now deceased, have
taken over his shop and continue cleaning sick glass. They are in Corning, NY. I am sorry but since our fire I don’t have their info. I wonder if anyone else has it or has used their service. I could try to get it I don’t know if I have told you that our whole place burned June 12. We had some wonderful art glass including Steuben and our whole collection of Orient & Flume from 1971 to 1982. We lost 10 buildings including our business employing 25 people and our house and art studio. We had built all the custom buildings ourselves. David and I have been together for 40 years and are both collectors of many things. Besides my Bohemian enamel bottles I had a huge collection of DeVilbiss atomizers, vintage beaded purses, vintage clothes shoes and hats. We have collected contemporary art avidly. We had a very large collection of books, many out of print.

On the subject of repairs, David Chadwick Brown of San Diego notes that Paul
Denson can be found at 2l Glen Ave, in Corning l4830

Beth Shaut of the Carder Steuben Shop in Corning adds:
The phone number for Denson repair is 607-962-1980, Paul Denson -son and
Butch Rose- son-in-law. They do very good work. Most of our pendants come
from Denson’s. I knew Roy, as he did quite a lot of the repairs for the Rockwell
company. He was a retired Steuben worker and went into repairs after retiring.
He could tell stories about the old Steuben he had seen. Also I have 2 more
names for your list of person interested in Carder’s work. They are: Jeff Mack,
MACKCREATIVE@hotmail.com , I’m not sure if it is all capital letters or not
because he did it all in capitals, and Adam Thomas, A Thomasglass@live.com .
They are with Greenfield Village Studio in Michigan. They said that they had
been to Jim Barlow & Mark Buffa’s home in Utica, MI to see their glass. They
are interested in trying their hands at the older styles.

For those who know Eleanor Cicerchi, who use to be with CMoG, she is now
Director, Signature Campaign with The Newark Museum. I believe she still lives
in Corning and commutes every week to Newark. Eleanor, who grew up in Corning
recollects that she grew up across the street from Roy Denson who had a shop in
the back of his house—and repaired a lot of Steuben and made his own
creations from broken pieces.

Scott Hansen has gone one step further. He has unearthed the web site for Denson Crystal
Repair. I’m surprised no one has passed this along – http://www.densoncrystalrepair.com – everything you need to know plus a little family glass history (and pictures too.)
