To Insure or not insure-that is the question

Some great information about how to inventory your glass collectibles and be
prepared if a claim is necessary. At the Symposium John Clayton of Los Angeles
noted that specialized insurance is available at reasonable costs. He admonished
collectors who don’t insure to insure. The cost compared to the risk many take,
being not justifiable. At any rate, the attached piece has some good information
and web sites and programs that should be inviting.

Hello Alan
I found out the hard way about insurance when a shelf gave way and several
glass items were broken. Breakage, at least on the policy I had, was not covered
unless it was scheduled. Only theft and fire were included. As an appraiser I am usually called in after a loss. It is sometimes impossible to create a proper claim without photos and documentation. I urge all collectors to either have an appraisal done before there is a loss or at the least keep detailed photos and descriptions including measurements of all items in your collection.
