This morning when I received a message from Dave Williams of Kalamazoo, Michigan, I was quite surprised. Dave was sending along comments to Gazelle Gazette #973 that dated back to October 25 of last year. So, to help understand Dave’s comments I went to the www.cardersteubenclub.org web site. Then I went to the tab for Gazette’s and looked up #973. Then I double clicked on the attachment which shows what Dave was referring to. http://cardersteubenclub.org/gazelle/files/_203ThreeStemComport.pdf

Alan,

Thanks for sending this Favorite again (on the day before my 80th birthday) I know that you and Susan have especially appreciated it – as Helen and I once did. Because of it’s unusual shape, it must have been difficult to form and further to survive annealing cracks and breakage. I think it might one of a kind (or at least one of a very few) in existence – I have never seen any other references to one of them. (ed. I know of at least one other Dave)

Yesterday we sent along a link to a 1934 silent movie showing the completing a 200 inch telescope mirror being built for Palomar. A couple of responses. One from Valentino D’Francom.

Thank you so much. This is very interesting.

Then, John Styler of Prospect Heights, Illinois adds.

Fantastic is all I can add, thanks
