THIS AND THAT (Russet Brown)

Issue 747

First, from Robert Bjork
I think you made a typo on the Gazelle Gazette number. Should be #746.

Also, while we all talking about Steuben repro’s, there is an old Czechoslovakian copy of the Steuben Bird Design ACB. It has an Alabaster-like body which is cased with a butterscotch color outer layer. There are also some discrepancies in the bird design.

Next, and moving on to another subject from Marshall Ketchum.
With the information we are gathering on color here is another question. Has anyone heard of “Russet Brown” or have a piece of Steuben they think might be that color? The color is listed at least twice in the factory records once with a shape 2839 bowl and another time with a shape 3178 stick. Both were listed as being engraved “Waverly”. It is not in any other list that I have seen. The closest I can come is a 6287 fan vase which I originally thought was Smoke Crystal but now I am not so sure.

While we were talking about Carder’s white glasses two that I omitted were Opal and Opaline. I really like Ed Bush’s inputs and they should help a lot.
