The Real Reifschlager Experience From Jenny Monroe

Alan – Seeing these photos of the Reifschlager Gallery are sure bringing back memories for me. I spent 17 years walking through these wonderful cases on the way to and from my office daily. I’d like to share a little information about Frank and Mary Elizabeth Reifschlager for your members. They were glass collectors from Houston who regularly came to Corning to visit Bob and Hertha Rockwell, where they fell in love with Carder glass. Whenever Bob was offered a piece to buy that he could not afford, he would call Frank and talk to him about it. Very often Frank would buy it, and many, many of those pieces eventually found their way back to Corning with the Reifschlager bequest. With that gift, some Tiffany pieces came as well – a few are featured in the current Tiffany Mosaics exhibition on view this year. As Bob would say if he were still here, “you build a collection through friends.” Such a legacy of friendships between Carder and Rockwell, and all those that Bob befriended over the years&&.and it continues through your good work. Cheers, Jenny
