Expansion
sent in by John Styler of Prospect Heights, Illinois
Last year attending the symposium we saw the work being done on the expansion of the CMoG so today I went to www.cmog.org/expansion to see how far the project has gone, the pictures are fantastic.
I learned the Architect designed the building to include an innovative renovation of the former Steuben factory.
To my amazement I learned a lot. The 100,000 sq. ft. expansion project is being funded by Corning Inc. at a cost of $64 million dollars; oh that is where my dividends are going!
It is called the CMoG North Wing Addition with 26,000 sq. ft. of gallery for contemporary works and a 500 seat arena for a hot glass making space.
Unfortunately it will not open until 2014 so the Symposium or a visit in 2014 is a must.
2013 Carder Steuben Club annual Symposium will be held at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY from September 19-21, 2013. The festivities will begin with Frederick Carder’s 150th birthday celebration on the evening of September 18, 2013.
