The Land of Confusion

May 13, 2019
Issue 3194

First off, David Donaldson corrects the description of the piece shown: The description of the Tiffany piece is incorrect. It should read: Blue translucent glass with overall iridescent surface.

It originally read: Colorless glass, blue iridescence; blown, tooled, applied. Footed vase with narrow stem that widens to a waisted bowl that widens and then folds out to a flat rim.

Next, I didn’t pay attention and didn’t call this out as a piece of Tiffany instead of Steuben. Other than David Donaldson no one else did either. Why the confusion–well here are two similar Steuben shape number 2652 pieces.
