Cut Glass In The Brilliant Period
Jane Spillman is so knowledgeable about the cut glass manufacturers in Corning, that she could probably do this talk in her sleep.
Although Jane has retired from the Corning Museum of Glass after a 48 year career, she has, once again, agreed to do a presentation at the Carder Steuben Symposium, entitled “The Crystal City – Cut Glass in Corning.”
Beginning in the 1880s, as elaborately cut glass became increasingly popular in the United States, a number of companies sprung up in Corning – T.G. Hawkes & Company, J. Hoare & Company, O.F. Egginton Company and H.P. Sinclaire & Company, to name a few.
Steuben Glass Works was started to provide blanks to Hawkes, but provided blanks to other companies as well. Jane will discuss the manufacturers and cutters of the American Brilliant Period in The Crystal City.
