THE 2012 CARDER STEUBEN SYMPOSIUM
Its been a while since I’ve contributed anything to the Gazette. This is largely due to the fact that I’ve been working on the Symposium program. The program is now available on the website, and I would like to point out several of the talks which address issues that have been discussed at length in the Gazette.
We’ve had a great deal of discussion about damaged and repaired pieces. I am pleased to report that Stev Koob, the Chief Conservator of CMoG, is going to talk about glass conservation at CMoG and will show us before and after pictures of pieces in the museum collection. We’ve been trying to have Steve speak for several years and this is the first time his schedule meshed with ours.
We’ve also had some discussion of the 1972 Corning flood in the Gazette. I’m pleased to report that Tracy Savard of the Rakow Library will give a talk about the flood and its impact on Corning and CMoG. The Rakow has an exhibit on the flood and will show a video about the flood at the Symposium.
