Carder Club board member Vivienne Richards of Port Perry, Ontario, Canada is excited to find other Canadian collectors and challenges all of those to attend the Symposium. Kind of like the Jerry Lewis telethon challenges. Vivienne writes
I am excited to know that there are fellow Carder Steuben collectors in Canada. In the interests of encouraging membership and attendance at our upcoming symposium, I am offering a little tidbit about Carder Steuben lurking in the Toronto area.
I am attaching two pictures of what I believe to be Steuben ivrene elevator hall lights, still currently in use! The first photo shows the light just above the elevator door. Also note the beautiful stainless steel door in the foreground. The second photo shows the light in its bronze mounting. These lights are on all floors and are still in use. Some are in nickel plated mounts, others in bronze.
This building at 234 Bay Street, in the Toronto Dominion Center, is privately owned but heritage designated. It is a great example of post-moderne architecture and is worth seeing just for the stainless steel staircase alone. It was built as the Toronto Stock Exchange and completed in 1937.
The first floor of the building is leased by the Design Exchange folks and you can see the elevator lights there. Mark and I managed to talk our way into the upper floors which are under restoration, and I will bring some pics of a beautiful molded glass plaque, light fixture and architectural glass panels with me to the symposium. Are they all Steuben? Who knows. The people I spoke to had no idea about Carder Steuben.
Canada folks, come down to the symposium if you can, make new friends, learn lots more, and further Carder collecting and interest in our local area.
You can still sign up for the Symposium. Symposium brochure attached. Lisa Ackerman of Orange, California signed up yesterday. I worried that she could find a place to stay. She wrote that she found a room at
The Budget Inn, and it is located just outside of town near the golf course. (I’m assuming it might have been the same course that F. Carder played?) Here’s the website.

The rate is great, though. 64.99 a night, and there is a microwave, and fridge, I think. It comes with a light breakfast of cereal, coffee and juice.
So, you can still act and be a part of a great experience of art glass, conversation and great people.
