Last week we were discussing moving entire collections.
We start our discussion with comments from Marshall Ketchum of Genoa, New York
Scott’s question about moving glass reminds me of my experience. When the glass had to be moved from Arizona to New York I couldn’t trust the movers. I loaded it into 25 large plastic tubs with the glass wrapped in bubble wrap. It took two trips in the motor home moving about 12 tubs at a time.
Thanks.
Marshall

The glass repair artist extraordinaire, Wayne Montano of Emmett Idaho reports on how he ships.
Replying to Scott Hansen’s question: Yes we had a glass shipped to us and it was encased in foam. It took Jan quite awhile to get it out. She had to cut it out. We were very nervous that it would break. I guess I didn’t know that it could be “easy” to remove.
Did the moving company tell Scott how to remove the item from the foam. I would not recommend it has a packing alternative.

Tommy Dreiling of Brooklyn adds some perspective on shipping damage.
I was just thinking. If our experiences with broken shipped pieces is true of other types of glass can you imagine how much has been lost over the last ten years of E-Bay? – Tommy
