The Auction is Coming

from Symposium Auction Chair Mark Chamovitz of Pittsburg

Hello Alan and Symposium attendees,

If you have anything that you would like to place in the symposium dinner auction this year, please keep in mind that the cut off date for submittals is September 10th. This is a great opportunity for you to make some extra cash for that piece you don’t use or have stored away, or if you choose, you can donate your piece to benefit the club. The auction is sure to have some interesting and beautiful offerings this year. So please, check to see if you have any items you wish to submit. Looking forward to seeing you all at the symposium!!!

Remember there will be a 10% buyers fee added to the hammer price of items sold, and a 10% sellers fee to items placed in the auction which are not donated in full to the club. Secondly, no credit cards accepted for the auction purchases, only cash or checks will be accepted.

Steuben “gift” Marketing Booklet

from Rande Bly of Birmingham, Alabama

Here is page 6 & 7 the two center pages in color.

Here is a good description why we “pre post Carder Steuben” collectors love Carder Steuben.

As we go maybe we can compare the differences of the gift books if any. The text in mine reads:

Color is the chief glory of Steuben Glass. Rare amethysts and rich Ruby Reds– Blues, cool as deep pools of still water, or purplish as pansy petals. Sun-clear Ambers and Yellows—Greens, soft polished Jade, or brilliant as emeralds. And in Steuben glass, pictured below. . . Golds, bright as nuggets or rose-tinted like a sunset—Blues, metallic as Cobalt, or touched with green like a peacock’s plume. There is romance as well as chemistry in conceiving such wonderful colors. You will find them in Steuben glass— and in Nature.

I only have $35.00 to spend so that puts me out on the millefiori bowl which should cash out for around $50.00 if I remember correctly. The ACB Plum Jade is totally in my range but would take the better chunk of my money. It is a good contender for my final choice and purchase. I am going to have to pass on the Decorated Blue Aurene fan vase. It is much too common. The stoppered fine twist bottle is in Spanish Green and brings $20.00 a pair and the Cerise Ruby powder box barely gets my engine running. Next I will show page 8 & 9 featuring a very unusual combination for a console set!

2013 Carder Steuben Club annual Symposium will be held at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY from September 19-21, 2013. The festivities will begin with Frederick Carder’s 150th birthday celebration on the evening of September 18, 2013.
