The Art of Buying Art

Speaking of damaged glass, Bob Weinberg of Huntington, New York writes.

Hi fellow collectors: I follow the same rules for art, glass, books, anything I collect; If it is commonplace; i.e, you have seen another like it, look for the best you can afford. If it is rare – not just stated to be but really rare – and if you love it despite its flaws, buy it – you can always keep an eye out for a better one. Finally if you really really love it, want to buy it but don’t know what you are buying, do some research. You can always ask the seller for some time to consider it or at least to call you before he sells to someone else. If he doesn’t want to give a serious prospective buyer time to consider a purchase, buy from someone else. I really recommend a little book, Bamberger, The Art of Buying Art which is readily available on internet sites. Happy Easter! and Happy Collecting
